“oscar piastri next btw”

We need to talk about how some stans or “super fans” need to re-think their life choices.

I was going through Tik Tok the other day, and I saw a video of a girl saying that she saw on X (formerly Twitter) a Lando Norris fan replying to a Charlie Kirk news post about his death with a repost saying “Oscar Piastri next btw”

I was speechless when I saw this.

As per my perspective, this type of behavior translates a lack of awareness of reality and what this basically says to me is: this person has zero sense of what is real and what is not.

They live a “parassocial reality”, where in their heads, Oscar Piastri is so hated by them that he deserves to die. This, of course if you don’t follow F1, goes in hand with the fact that Oscar Piastri besides being a teammate to Lando Norris, is also a direct rival for the World Championship. This, in their heads serves as a valid response to an “enemy” of their “Stan” (enemy between quotations as we are fully aware both Norris and Piastri don’t have any known animosity between themselves).

Now comes the conclusion to this, and my personal opinion on the matter.

I am a firm believer that this will only get worse.

The “parassocial” relationship people develop with celebrities is real and should be further developed in psychological terms. These types of behaviors can be dangerous, offensive and even harmful for the celebrity themselves (queue the aftermath of Taylor Swift engagement post, and the feedback received from some of her fans that believed she was part of the queer community. Actually, I will leave a video here that speaks up on the matter in a lighthearted manner: check it here).

For me, social media is a reflection of what is going on in society. And what is society nowadays? Ruthless, cruel, nonsensical and we became so desensitized to violence, that we simply shrug and move on to the next chapter. This is no different than that.

It’s scary when you think about it, but it’s the new normal, apparently.

Take care,

Claudia.
